Borat

Believe it or not, that was the first time I've ever watch the film. I’ve heard of it before but I never really attempted to go watch it because it didn't interest me regardless of how funny it was. I mean it had me wondering, but not really. I just saw it as another social stunt along with many others. But I finally saw it. Though the film was smart with its hilarious extremes like taking a dump in the middle of NY City, it was hard to comfortably watch without questioning my morals. I’ve heard many criticisms about this film and so going into it I had an idea of what I was going to experience. As the film portrayed an actual country of Kazakhstan, I could only imagine the contry’s reaction when seeing their country depicted as a place where men treat women as slaves and screw their sisters. The film left me wondering why Kazakhstan and not a fictional country? Though it’s unethical, I figured that if the film weren’t portrayed as an actual country then it wouldn’t be as popular and make a boatload of money. It still amazes me the kind of films people would make to make a political statement and get noticed. No aspect of prejudice, hypocrisy, arrogance, and stupidity was overlooked in the film and the humiliation was beyond what I expected.
